DIY Serum recipe and instructions

Toner & Aloe gel: Basic serum recipe to start with!

You can make a simple yet skin-pampering DIY Corpse Paint sheet mask with easily available products: toner and aloe vera gel!

The recipe below is a basic recipe that you can customize to your liking. You can also add a few drops of other products, such as Spatanic Caffeinator Gel Serum, to add extra benefits.

Serum ingredients

  • 2 tsp (10 ml) toner (for example, Spatanic Rose Water Toner or Lavender Water Toner, or any toner you are currently using. Preferably an organic or natural toner.)
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) aloe vera gel (Easy to find from a local supplier. For example, Normal carries aloe vera gel in Finland.)

In addition, you will need:

  • 1 dry Corpse Paint Sheet Mask
  • A small bowl or mug

Directions

  1. Mix your serum ingredients (the toner of your choice and the aloe vera gel) in a clean bowl or mug. Mix well.
  2. Take one mask sheet and fold it into four quarters. Remember which way around the mask is - you should wear the unprinted side against your skin for the mask to stick to your face properly.
  3. Place the folded mask in the bowl and move it around until it has fully absorbed the serum. Let it sit for a minute or two to soak up the serum completely.
  4. Wash your face thoroughly. You can also use toner to prepare your skin for the mask.
  5. Place the mask on your face, avoiding the eye and lip areas.
  6. Remove the mask after 10–20 minutes. Gently massage any remaining serum into your skin and let it absorb naturally.

Benefits for the skin

  • Natural toners are typically blends of botanical waters and moisturizing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid. The sheet mask helps keep bigger amounts of these ingredients in contact with your skin for longer, allowing them to absorb without drying out as quickly.
  • Aloe vera has excellent skin-soothing and calming properties, while its gel-like consistency helps the mask stay comfortably in place on your face.

Mask material info

The mask material is non-woven bamboo fibre. Mass of a single sheet mask is approximately same as a medium size cotton pad for removing makeup.

Recycling instructions:

The mask sheet

All tho the fibre is 100% natural and made from bamboo it is NOT compostable in normal household conditions. The right way to deposit the used mask is with burnable/mixed waste.

The packaging

Recycle as cardboard.

Origin

The masks sheets are cut and printed in China and designed and packed in Finland to Spatanic boxes that are partly made in Denmark and partly in Germay.

FAQ 1: Can I reuse the masks?

For safety reasons, we officially advise treating the mask sheets as single-use products. A used mask may develop bacterial growth, which could potentially get into your eyes or cause skin irritation or other problems if the mask is reused.

It is technically possible to reuse a mask if you rinse it thoroughly under plenty of running water immediately after use, then boil it and allow it to dry completely on a flat surface to avoid stretching. I have tested this myself and, as an experiment, reused the same mask sheet up to five times.

However, even without being a sustainability expert, I would say that the amount of water and energy required to properly clean and sanitize a used mask likely outweighs the environmental benefit of reusing it instead of simply using and disposing of a new one.
