Tea tree essential oil is a potent extract distilled from the leaves of the Australian Melaleuca Alternifolia plant. It is a 100% pure natural essential oil and does not contain any synthetic ingredients. The product is vegan, biodegradable and cruelty-free. Spatanic essential oils are bottled in small batches in Kaamos’ workshop here in Salo, Finland.
Tea tree oil in aromatherapy and skin care
The scent of tea tree oil can help to increase focus and is therefore a good fit to burn while studying or working. You can give it a try it during the flu season as the fragrance helps you feel refreshed and fight fatigue.
Tea tree oil is is believed to be antibacterial and is commonly used to treat acne, athlete's foot, itchy scalp and insect bites.
Tea tree is one of the few essential oils that is safe to use directly on skin in tiny amounts. You can apply a drop of tea tree essential oil to a cotton swab and spot treat pimples and zits. For continuous use it is however best to blend your own potion in a clean bottle or container. A good starting point is to mix 2-3 drops of green tea oil to a spoonful of carrier oil (jojoba, grape seed oil, etc.). Testing out different proportions is the best way to find the perfect fit to your skin. Do not use the potion close to the eyes or on injured skin.

Tips for making the most of your tea tree essential oil
Oil burner
Pour some water (a teaspoon or two) to the oil burner dish and apply 3-7 drops of essential to the surface of the water. The more essential oil you use the stronger the fragrance will be. It is always good to start with just a few drops.
Diffuser
Make sure to follow your diffuser's directions as some diffusers have a specific place for applying fragrances. In general you can just apply 3-7 drops to the water tank.
Aroma stone
Apply a drop of oil directly onto the stone.
Skincare, massage oils and oil perfumes
- Apply two drops of essential oil to a full table spoon of carrier oil. For example jojoba oil, coconut oil, hemp seed or sesame seed oils are good carrier oils.
- Essential oils are highly potent concentrations and should never be touched or used on skin undiluted.
Bath, sauna and shampoo
- Mix 5-10 drops of essential oil to a table spoon of your chosen bath base. As base you can use any foaming bath products such as shower gel or bubble bath. Mix the blend carefully and only after that dilute it to your bath water.
- In sauna, apply a few drops of essential oil to the ladle just before throwing water over the hot stones.
- Apply two drops of tea tree essential oil to a table spoon of shampoo before washing your hair. Many find this practice to soothe itchy scalp and prevent dandruff.
Cleaning and house hold work
- Add a couple drops of essential oil on your vacuum’s filter or collection bag.
- Apply a few drops of oil to a spray bottle full of water and create a fabric refresh spray. Shake well before use!
- General purpose cleaning detergent: 1dl of water, 1dl of vinegar and 10-20 drops of tea tree essential oil. Shake well before spraying.
Essential oils, such as any oils, do not dilute to water. You will always need an emulsifier to make a proper dilution. A simple method to emulsify essential oils at home is to mix them with carrier oil, lotions, creams, or foaming bath products such as shampoos, liquid soaps or shower gels.
If you wish to mix essential oils with water (for example fabric freshener or cleaning spray) you must always shake the bottle well before each use.

- Can cause allergic reaction. When testing a new essential oil on your skin always do a patch test first. This will help you to find out whether this oil is suitable for you.
- Pregnant women, young children, elderly and ill people should use essential oils only according to advice from a trained professional.
